madeleine l'engle says she found God as a baby when her parents woke her one night and took her outside to see the stars.
she remembers the swirling mass of galaxy, how it spoke of a God bigger than the sky and how her parents said nothing, just held her, while she witnessed the creator.
and this is what i want. to hold my children while they witness the creator.
do this, with me, this weekend, friends? (so good to be back among you...)

You are so beautiful. Yes. I will do that with you. Kids and all.
♡
madeleine speaks such wisdom. i love her thougths on faith and children.
i want the same.
i want to watch as my children discover and encounter god.
i am learning so much from their discoveries!
Did you get your hair cut? I love it!
i always thought i have to tell them a lot about him - but the real big things reveal themselves without being explained by someone..? sometimes...grace times.. good to have you back with your writing em
Thank you for this, Emily! I love madeleine l'engle and I'd never read about how she found God. Nice to see you back--and I'm wondering about your hair too! You have the perfect face for short hair!
And that sky in Canada does reveal Him in a way differently than where I live at the ocean. We have a family cottage in Ontario and watch the stars fall at night under blankets next to the embers of the fire where we roasted marshmellows hours before. One of my favorite things to do in the whole world! Have a great weekend.
I wish I lived further away from the city to see the stars at night, but I would like to live IN the city to enjoy the life at night. dilemma. :)
Amazing as always...beautiful as ever :)
and how cool it is to experience him through them as well...smiles....
just finishing "The Irrational Season" of hers right now... so much wisdom, and such a calling for life. Bought my son a telescope the night I read that passage, now we map out the stars above us, and the wonder of it all on both our hearts. All the best this weekend!
me too. (and the lovely extra-helping is that i get to witness Him too.)
Awesome! I wish my kid was here to participate! This one will be "tucked away" for later.
That is just beautiful. And that would be so like you -- to hold people up so they can see the Creator. In fact, you do that all the time, even with your Jesus-sisters. You know it?
Love you.
oh so important ..the stars that bring us closer together ...i see so much as they shine ~
Oh, I haven't been here in some time and I'm so glad to be back. Thank you for stopping by my own blog and leaving a comment. Reconnection will be the 2012 mantra!
Good to read your blog, again... love how you point God out to your kids, and let us tag along, Emily :) Thanks!
I love this, Emily. I've been dealing with visiting grandboys who are begging to go to church, don't understand why we can't attend services on Thursday, that church isn't there all the time.
And then we talk about how Jesus is always there. One asks if we pray again before our ice cream, and I say, "it's never wrong to be grateful" and I'm stunned, again, at how big those little hearts beat for Jesus.
Oh....and Jennifer's comment? Dead on!
I am so glad you are back. You are a soul sister of mine, dearest Emily.
Beautifully and simply profound. In your own special way you hold us up to see the Creator, and what a gift it is!
So glad you are back. I have missed your words. Thank you for this place that you have created where I can see a glimpse of your life. It always warms my heart.
This is beautiful.
I remember first experiencing God at age five when my distantly-related aunt put me on the back of her horse and smiled up at me and said, 'Just ride and I won't let the horse run off with you, honey.' And then she led me around underneath the big California trees by the mountain stable. By the time I got off, I just wondered. And wondering is where it all starts, I guess.
